Our stance on generative AI

We tell ourselves stories in order to live

Joan Didion

Stories are the threads that hold us together. We need them to understand our common challenges, our common bonds, and our place in the world.

We know that right now is our pivotal story—a tale of fragmentation and a growing loss of trust.

Creativity is at a crossroads. Writing tools, publishers, and platforms are failing us. The tools we use have been corrupted by data-scraping and entities hostile to intellectual property ownership, disregarding our consent. The future of creative work requires a nuanced understanding of the challenges ahead, and a shared vision—writers for writers.

Because we know we're stronger together. We believe in the strength of creative communities and the stories they tell. We want to foster a space in which writers can connect and tell those stories in freedom and safety, without compromise.

In a rapidly changing world, transparency and consent is paramount. We will never sell your data or use your works for exploitative purposes.

We stand for creative authenticity. We believe that AI-generated content should not overtake human voices, and that LLMs in their current form are unethically trained and applied. Barring significant regulatory changes, we will never weave generative AI into Ellipsus.

So—what should our story be?
