New in Ellipsus: March 2025
Sometimes, the most challenging part of writing is just getting started. Living in this world is daunting enough. But building a new one? From scratch?
This month’s updates are here to make it easier to go from blank page to first draft.
Plan your story with templates
Developing a story starts with asking the right questions.
We’ve added 10 templates to help you define your next story’s world, characters, and plot points. Explore templates for:
- Assembling character sheets
- Planning character arcs
- Identifying your characters’ emotional wounds
- Outlining character relationships
- Defining conflicts, stakes, and tension
- Building scenes
- Crafting a story opener
- Planning your story
- Exploring themes and symbolism
- World-building
You can work with these templates directly in Ellipsus—open the dashboard, click New, and then select From template.
What templates would you like to see next? Let us know over on our ideas board.
Set the mood with 10 new fonts
We’re continuing to enrich the editor with additional fonts. (Shout out to everyone who shared excellent suggestions on our ideas board—keep them comin’!)
In March, we added 10 new fonts. Our latest batch includes a playful, sans serif option (Balsamiq Sans), two vintage-inspired serif fonts (IM FELL English, Spectral Newsreader), and a few handwritten ones (Lugrasimo, Oooh Baby). (Did we choose Oooh Baby for its name? Perhaps.)
Check spelling in four new languages
Ellipsus has writers in nearly 160 countries. That’s a lot of (potential) typos across a lot of languages! (JK we’re sure you’re all perfect.)
We’ve added Czech, Irish, Norwegian (Bokmål and Nynorsk), and Swedish to our supported spell-check languages.
How do we choose which languages to support? It’s a mix of scrying, reviewing anonymized visitor data to see where writers are (generally) located, and keeping our eyes open for specific requests. When all three point to the same outcome—and we’re able to spot a compatible open-source dictionary—well, that’s when the spell check magic happens, baby. So, if you’d like to see another language in Ellipsus, let us know and we’ll look into it!
