Ellipsus Plus gives us a way to keep building and improving Ellipsus long-term, allowing us to remain independent and continue to support over 500k writers, and the operations of our full-time team.
Yes. The free plan will remain free, and will continue to receive updates and many new features. Plus is a set of features on top of the free plan, making the whole tool more sustainable, funding the development and maintenance of Ellipsus for all users.
Our initial Plus features were informed by community-wide feedback and surveys. The results were:
These features are not the entirety of Ellipsus Plus—there’s more to come, and soon!
Our commitments to writers are not changing:

Ellipsus Plus is here to help us build sustainably.
Yes! As an Ellipsus user, you will be able to test all Plus features during your 7 day free trial.
We wanted the Plus plan to be sustainable for Ellipsus and reasonable for writers.
We know subscription fatigue is real. We also think that writers should be able to own their tools, and not rent them forever. We also know that the cost of buying tools outright can be prohibitive.
Subscribe-to-own means your subscription payments count toward your ownership of Ellipsus Plus.
You can buy the license outright (for $99), pay annually (two payments of $60), or pay monthly ($6 a month for 24 months). Once you’ve paid for your license, you own Ellipsus Plus forever. That includes future features, updates and improvements.
You can read more about subscribe-to-own here.
Yes! If you’d rather pay once, you can purchase the Plus license upfront for $99.
Our pricing model was shaped by community feedback, and the real costs of running Ellipsus, (e.g. hosting, development, support, infrastructure, security, our team, and keeping our lights on).
We know that affordability means different things for everyone; payment localization is something we’re planning to support in the near future, so you can pay in a way that makes sense for where you live.
Yes! Ellipsus Plus includes a week-long free trial (with no payment information required), so you can explore the features before deciding whether to upgrade.
The same Ellipsus you know and love. The free plan still includes unlimited documents, drafts, collaborators, and core features.
Yes! Ellipsus Plus allows us to build more sustainably, which means continued improvements, updates, and new features added to the free plan too.
We may release free seasonal or event-focused themes in the future.
You can keep writing on the free plan. Your existing work stays yours; your documents, drafts, collaborators, and core features will remain available.
You do not need to upgrade to Plus to keep using Ellipsus.
We’re moving collaborator chat to Ellipsus Plus. Unlike all other Ellipsus features, collaborator chat is powered by a paid third-party. Because of rising costs and low usage, we’ve made the decision to move chat to Ellipsus Plus.
Your existing chat content will not disappear immediately. Affected users—anyone who has ever used collaborator chat—will receive direct communication in-app and via email, with a clear timeline:
No way. Ellipsus is a writing tool… and ads are awful writing inspo.
Ellipsus Plus helps us avoid revenue models that depend on advertising or other nasty practices.
You can cancel your Plus subscription at any time. If you cancel before your license is paid-in-full, you’ll keep access to Plus until the end of your billing period. After that, your account will revert to the free plan.
